Both pregnancy and labour can affect a woman's body. If you are trying to lose some additional pregnancy weight, make sure you do it healthily. Consult your doctor before you start to diet or a exercise plan. If you want to diet and are breast feeding it is best to wait until your baby is at least two months old. Your body needs to recover from childbirth and establish a good milk supply. Then when you start to loose weight try not to loose to much to quickly, as this can be harmful to your baby, because environmental toxins that are stored in your body fat can be released into your milk supply. Losing about a half a pound per week (no more then 4 pounds per month) has been found to be a safe amount and will not affect your milk supply or the baby's growth. It can take up to 6 months to one year for your body to return back to normal, so if you are not breast feeding don't be in to much of a hurry to cut the calories. Apart from the physical trauma of giving birth it can leave you feeling very exhausted. Looking after and being responsible for a new baby can be stressful but it is also very rewarding . It will require all your energy-especially when it comes to night feeds and the demands of a newborn. Start to eat healthy with enough calories to give you the energy and nutrition to cope. Eating healthy will also help to normalize your weight.
